Black Motion: We don’t like to show off our success

They have won several major music awards across the world, but Black Motion remain as humble as the day they started.

“The thing is we believe in our work and our brand more than us as individuals. When we were first releasing music we tried to make our music speak for us before we ever introduced ourselves as individuals. We don’t like to show off our success,” the duo says.

This is evident in their latest album, Fortune Teller, going gold in less than 50 days. They say that they purposely made no noise about it – even though their friends in the industry did.

“We’ve tried to learn from other artists’ mistakes and have really stuck to our upbringing. We grew up in an environment where you can be whoever but you still respect a person and be humble. That played a huge part in who we are today,” they said

The group also revealed that they seek the same humble spirit in the people they collaborate with.

“Artists nowadays come with money and they expect the song to blow up, to trend, but they forget the art behind it. That’s how we chose our vocalists, if you are chilled and humble and exchange ideas about music then we can work with you. But if you are coming expecting to just make money, we won’t be on the same page.”
